Source: Screen shot from MONEY FM 89.3. Each week until October 31, 2018, we are shortlisting a local corporate figure from Singapore and Malaysia who has demonstrated excellence in a media appearance, in the Hong Bao Media Savvy Awards 2018.

Our shortlisted candidate for the Hong Bao Media Savvy Awards 2018 this week brought us back to the eighties with a story on how we used to withdraw cash ... from a post bank.

Despite being in 'The Hot Seat', Group CEO of NETS Jeffrey Goh kept his poise throughout his 17-minute broadcast interview on MONEY FM 89.3.

His ability to share how NETS had evolved over time worked very well, thanks to his story-telling ability which kept listeners engaged.

Scroll down to find out my reasons for nominating him in the category of Best Broadcast Interview, and listen for yourself by clicking on the link below.

  1. Stories - He seamlessly pulled his listeners in by telling stories in the local context. For example, Chong Keong Bank, FairPrice, and queueing even before the branch is open! Story-telling is a skill that all senior business leaders should have in order to command the attention of your audience. Goh was confidently in the drivers 'hot' seat!
  2. Candour - He was candid and authentic in sharing his personal experiences and adding catch phrases like "Member? NETS" caught our attention! It sounded more like an informal catch-up over coffee rather than a serious radio interview. He made the presenters laugh, too.
  3. Numbers - Adding numbers makes your interview more substantive. Goh referred to the empirical number of members rising from 21,000 to 34,000 over the last seven years, and then contextualised the number as representing a 50% increase in the number of merchants. He was credible and well-prepared to talk about current trends of cashless payments.

I guess there are always things that can go better in an interview. But Goh's interview sets a strong example for other local business leaders to follow.

If you know Mr Goh, share this article with him and congratulate him on being nominated for the Hong Bao Media Savvy Awards 2018.
