Simon Cheong exhibits the building blocks for a successful interview

Simon Cheong, CEO of luxury property developer SC Global, is a personable interviewee who is also a good explainer.

In an interview with CNBC’s Christine Tan, Simon Cheong talks about the property market and explains the industry well, which is why we are nominating him for the Media Savvy Awards 2022.

Bringing an angle to the interview

Cheong’s interview resulted in the video title: “Inflation is good for assets”. He said inflation actually underpins the value of assets like property. When asked whether he was worried about inflation, he instead said he was worried about many things, and that anyone who wants to make money has to take risk.

Explaining the local term “en bloc”

He also explained the term “en bloc” for the benefit of viewers outside Singapore. He said: “We have a phenomenon here called “en bloc”, which is very unique to Singapore.”

This is followed by a question from the interviewer about whether SC Global is interested in the en bloc market. To which Cheong said yes.

Personable

Most people would stiffen up during an interview as they try to remember their points while trying not to be too conscious of cameras trained on them. But Cheong is a natural. He seems comfortable and his posture is relaxed.
