Terence Zou’s interview is a smooth ride, with a song to boot

Terence Zou goes through the interview with The Peak with a calm energy and even sings a song.

Besides that, the CEO of ride-hailing app Ryde is a capable storyteller, which is why we have nominated him for the Hong Bao Media Savvy Awards 2021.

Watch and read below for my assessment.

We launched the Hong Bao Media Savvy Awards in 2018 to recognise local business leaders for their communications skills, and to showcase authentic and credible home-grown communicators.

Supported by the Asia Pacific Association of Communications Directors and joining us this year – the Investor Relations Professionals Association Singapore and the Public Relations and Communications Association – we highlight shining examples for other local business leaders to follow, and to build a culture of excellence in communication, to maximise the potential of Asian companies in the Asian Century.

Nominations close October 31, 2021 at www.mediasavvy.asia.<... brings a human side to the interview by recounting a time when he was recognised by a Ryde driver, who told him Ryde helped him put his two children through school and provided him with additional income during the pandemic.

The story is the highlight of the interview and adds to Zou's credibility.

Candour

Zou shows candour by demystifying the idea that entrepreneurs have to follow their passion. Calling for a desire to understand what the market wants, Zou thinks entrepreneurs should be solving problems in society instead of pursuing what they think they want.

Singing!

We generally would not recommend business leaders to sing during their interviews, but we have to make an exemption after seeing Zou’s performance. When asked about his go-to karaoke song, Zou responds not by naming it, but by singing it.

Luckily Zou pulls it off and manages to belt out a few lines of the song "My Way", a song made popular by Frank Sinatra in 1969.

Delivery

Zou speaks without hurry and brings a calmness to the interview. Nevertheless, he answers questions with a mix of expressions and hand gestures, which means he never goes into the dreaded territory of monotony and low energy.

If you know Zou, share this article with him and congratulate him on being nominated for the Hong Bao Media Savvy Awards 2021.
